to不定詞 / that節
|---|---|---|
| want | want 人 to do | want that 人 do |
| hope | hope that ~ / hope to do | hope 人 to do |
| suggest | suggest that 人 (should) do / suggest ~ing | suggest 人 to do |
| recommend | recommend that 人 (should) do / recommend ~ing | recommend 人 to do(※使われることもあるが that節が無難) |
| demand | demand that 人 (should) do | demand 人 to do |
| ask | ask 人 to do | ask that 人 do(硬い表現) |
| tell | tell 人 to do | say 人 to do |
| expect | expect 人 to do / expect that ~ | expect 人 doing |
| would like | would like 人 to do | would like that 人 do |
✕ I want that you come to the party.
○ I want you to come to the party.
✕ I hope you to pass the exam.
○ I hope (that) you pass the exam.
✕ My teacher suggested me to read more books.
○ My teacher suggested that I (should) read more books.
✕ He said me to wait.
○ He told me to wait.
suggest は suggest that ~ should do の形で覚えておけば、まず間違えません。
It is ~ for 人 to do / It is ~ that SV
It is ~ の形には、for 人 to do をとる形容詞と、that SV をとる形容詞があります。
| 形容詞のグループ | for 人 to do | that SV | 例文 |
|---|---|---|---|
| easy / difficult / hard / dangerous / impossible(行為の難しさ・危険さ) | ○ | ✕ | It is difficult for me to speak English.(私にとって英語を話すのは難しい) |
| clear / true / obvious / certain / evident(事実かどうか) | ✕ | ○ | It is clear that he is wrong.(彼が間違っているのは明らかだ) |
| likely / probable(ありそうなこと) | ✕ | ○ | It is likely that it will rain.(雨が降りそうだ) |
| important / necessary / essential(必要・重要) | ○ | ○(that節の動詞は原形か should + 原形) | It is important for us to save energy. / It is important that we (should) save energy.(私たちがエネルギーを節約することは大切だ) |
| possible(可能) | ○(〜することができる) | ○(〜かもしれない) | It is possible for me to come.(私は来ることができる) / It is possible that he will come.(彼は来るかもしれない) |
| natural / strange / surprising(感情・判断) | ○ | ○(that節で should を使うこともある) | It is natural that she (should) be angry.(彼女が怒るのは当然だ) |
✕ It is difficult that I speak English.
○ It is difficult for me to speak English.
✕ It is clear for him to be wrong.
○ It is clear that he is wrong.
✕ It is likely for it to rain tomorrow.
○ It is likely that it will rain tomorrow.(または It is likely to rain tomorrow.)
It is important for students to ~ と It is important that students (should) ~ のどちらも使えます。
|---|---|---|
| to不定詞だけ | want, decide, hope, plan, promise, refuse, expect, agree | I decided to study abroad.(留学することに決めた) |
| 動名詞だけ | enjoy, finish, mind, avoid, give up, stop, practice, imagine, consider | I enjoyed talking with her.(彼女と話すのを楽しんだ) |
| どちらも可(意味がほぼ同じ) | like, love, start, begin, continue | It started to rain. / It started raining.(雨が降り始めた) |
✕ I enjoyed to talk with my friends.
○ I enjoyed talking with my friends.
✕ I finished to write the report.
○ I finished writing the report.
✕ I decided going to Canada.
○ I decided to go to Canada.
remember / forget / stop / try(意味が変わる動詞)
|---|---|---|
| remember to do | 忘れずに〜する | Remember to lock the door.(忘れずにドアに鍵をかけて) |
| forget to do | 〜するのを忘れる | I forgot to call her.(彼女に電話するのを忘れた) |
| forget ~ing | 〜したことを忘れる | I'll never forget visiting Paris.(パリを訪れたことは決して忘れない) |
| stop to do | 〜するために立ち止まる | He stopped to smoke.(彼はたばこを吸うために立ち止まった) |
| try to do | 〜しようと努力する | I tried to open the window.(窓を開けようとした) |
✕ I stopped to play games because I had an exam.(「
○ I stopped playing games because I had an exam.
|---|---|---|
| look forward to ~ing | 〜を楽しみに待つ | I look forward to seeing you.(お会いできるのを楽しみにしています) |
| be used to ~ing | 〜に慣れている | I'm used to getting up early.(早起きには慣れている) |
| get used to ~ing | 〜に慣れる | You'll get used to living here.(ここでの生活にすぐ慣れるよ) |
| object to ~ing | 〜に反対する | They objected to building a new road.(彼らは新しい道路の建設に反対した) |
| when it comes to ~ing | 〜することになると | When it comes to cooking, he's the best.(料理となると彼が一番だ) |
| be devoted to ~ing | 〜に専念する | She is devoted to helping children.(彼女は子どもを助けることに専念している) |
✕ I'm looking forward to see you.
○ I'm looking forward to seeing you.
✕ I'm used to get up early.
○ I'm used to getting up early.
used to do / be used to ~ing
「昔は〜したものだ」が used to do、「〜に慣れている」が be used to ~ing
|---|---|---|
| used to do | (今はしないが)以前は〜していた | I used to play the piano.(以前はピアノを弾いていた) |
| be used to ~ing | 〜に慣れている | I'm used to playing the piano in public.(人前でピアノを弾くのに慣れている) |
✕ I used to living alone.(「
○ I'm used to living alone.
使役動詞 make / let / have / get
make / let / have の後ろは原形、get の後ろは to不定詞
|---|---|---|
| make 人 do | (強制的に)〜させる | My mother made me clean my room.(母は私に部屋を掃除させた) |
| have 人 do | (頼んで・仕事として)〜してもらう | I had the mechanic check my car.(整備士に車を点検してもらった) |
| get 人 to do | (説得して)〜してもらう | I got my brother to help me.(兄に手伝ってもらった) |
| help 人 (to) do | 〜するのを手伝う | She helped me (to) carry the box.(彼女は箱を運ぶのを手伝ってくれた) |
✕ My father made me to study.
○ My father made me study.
✕ I got him help me.
○ I got him to help me.
|---|---|---|
| know | I'm knowing him. | I know him. |
| like | I'm liking this song. | I like this song. |
| have(所有) | I'm having a car. | I have a car. |
| want | I'm wanting a new bag. | I want a new bag. |
| belong | I'm belonging to the tennis club. | I belong to the tennis club. |
(I'm having lunch now. / We're having a good time.)。
yesterday、last year、~ ago、when I was a child
|---|---|---|
| 過去形 | yesterday, last ~, ~ ago, in 2020, when ~ | I visited Kyoto last year.(去年京都を訪れた) |
| 現在完了 | ever, never, already, yet, for ~, since ~, so far | I have visited Kyoto three times.(京都には3回行ったことがある) |
✕ I have visited Kyoto last year.
○ I visited Kyoto last year.
✕ When have you arrived?
○ When did you arrive?
for / since(現在完了の期間)
| --- | --- | --- |
|---|---|---|
| since | 始まった時点(2015年、子どもの頃など) | I have lived here since 2015.(2015年からここに住んでいる) |
✕ I have studied English since five years.
○ I have studied English for five years.
when、after、before、until、as soon as なども同じです。
|---|---|---|
| if | If it will rain tomorrow, we will stay home. | If it rains tomorrow, we will stay home. |
| when | I'll call you when I will arrive. | I'll call you when I arrive. |
| as soon as | I'll tell him as soon as he will come back. | I'll tell him as soon as he comes back. |
| until | Wait here until I will come back. | Wait here until I come back. |
(I don't know when he will come.)。
仮定法(If I were you など)
「もし私があなたなら」は現実にはありえないので、If I am you ではなく If I were you と過去形にします。
だろう | If I had time, I would help you.(時間があれば手伝うのに) |
| If + had 過去分詞, would have 過去分詞 | (過去に)もし〜だったら…だっただろう | If I had studied harder, I would have passed.(もっと勉強していれば合格したのに) |
| I wish + 過去形 | 〜ならいいのに | I wish I were taller.(もっと背が高ければいいのに) |
✕ If I am rich, I will travel around the world.(実現しそうにない話の場合)
○ If I were rich, I would travel around the world.
✕ If I knew it, I would have helped you.(過去の話の場合)
○ If I had known it, I would have helped you.
because / so(文を2つに切らない)
会話では Because I was tired.
|---|---|---|
| 主節 + because ~ | 理由を後ろに置く | I went to bed early because I was tired.(疲れていたので早く寝た) |
| Because ~, 主節 | 理由を前に置く | Because I was tired, I went to bed early. |
| ~, so 主節 | 結果を後ろに置く | I was tired, so I went to bed early. |
✕ I went to bed early. Because I was tired.
○ I went to bed early because I was tired.
✕ Because I was tired, so I went to bed early.
○ Because I was tired, I went to bed early.
although / but(接続詞を重ねない)
because と so も同じです。
|---|---|
| Although it was raining, but we went out. | Although it was raining, we went out. |
| Though he is rich, but he is not happy. | He is rich, but he is not happy. |
「私が訪れた町」を the town where I visited としてしまうのは典型的なミスです。visit は他動詞なので、visit the town の the town が欠けています。
|---|---|---|
| which / that | 目的語・主語が欠けている | This is the town which I visited last year.(これは私が去年訪れた町だ) |
| where | 文として完全(場所の副詞が欠けている) | This is the town where I was born.(これは私が生まれた町だ) |
✕ This is the city where I visited last summer.
○ This is the city (which / that) I visited last summer.
○ This is the city where I stayed last summer.(stay
|---|---|
| I don't know where is he. | I don't know where he is. |
| Do you know what time does the shop open? | Do you know what time the shop opens? |
| Please tell me why did you do that. | Please tell me why you did that. |
What do you think / How do you think
What do you think?
感想を聞きたいときは How do you like ~? や How did you feel?
|---|---|---|
| What do you think of / about ~? | 〜をどう思いますか | What do you think of this idea?(このアイデアをどう思う?) |
| How do you like ~? | 〜は気に入りましたか | How do you like Japan?(日本はどうですか?) |
| How do you feel about ~? | 〜についてどう感じますか | How do you feel about the new rule?(新しいルールについてどう感じる?) |
✕ How do you think about this plan?
○ What do you think about this plan?
I don't think(否定の位置)
英語では、I think ~ not より I don't think ~ の形のほうが自然です。
|---|---|
| I think it won't rain tomorrow. | I don't think it will rain tomorrow. |
| I think he doesn't like me. | I don't think he likes me. |
「私も〜ない」は Me too. ではなく Me neither.(または Neither do I.)です。"I don't like natto." "Me neither."
It is ~ for 人 / of 人 to do
だ」は It is ~ for 人 to do ですが、kind、nice、careless、clever など人の性格・性質を表す形容詞のときは of を使います。
|---|---|---|
| for | easy, difficult, important, necessary, possible | It is important for us to save energy.(私たちがエネルギーを節約することは大切だ) |
| of | kind, nice, careless, clever, foolish, rude | It is kind of you to help me.(手伝ってくれてありがとう/親切ですね) |
✕ It is very kind for you to help me.
○ It is very kind of you to help me.
(This book is easy to read it など)
This book is easy to read.
|---|---|
| This book is easy to read it. | This book is easy to read. |
| This river is dangerous to swim in it. | This river is dangerous to swim in. |
| This is the bag which I bought it yesterday. | This is the bag which I bought yesterday. |
冠詞 a / the / なし
|---|---|
| 楽器を演奏する → the | play the piano / play the guitar |
| 本来の目的で施設に行く → 冠詞なし | go to school / go to bed / go to church |
| 交通手段の by → 冠詞なし | by bus / by train / by car |
| 食事 → 冠詞なし | have breakfast / have lunch |
| 世界に1つのもの → the | the sun / the moon / the earth |
| 数えられる名詞の単数形 → a か the が必要 | I have a dog.(✕ I have dog.) |
✕ I play piano and the tennis.
○ I play the piano and tennis.
✕ I go to the school by the bus.
○ I go to school by bus.
one of the ~ / every / each(単数・複数)
one of the の後ろは複数形、every と each の後ろは単数形
|---|---|---|
| one of the + 複数名詞 | 動詞は単数(主語は one) | One of my friends lives in Canada.(友達の1人がカナダに住んでいる) |
| each + 単数名詞 | 動詞は単数 | Each room has a bathroom.(各部屋にバスルームがある) |
✕ Kyoto is one of the most beautiful city in Japan.
○ Kyoto is one of the most beautiful cities in Japan.
✕ Every students have a tablet.
○ Every student has a tablet.
✕ Everyone are excited.
○ Everyone is excited.
the number of / a number of
「〜の数」は the number of(単数扱い)、「多くの〜」は a number of(複数扱い)
|---|---|---|
| the number of + 複数名詞 | 〜の数(動詞は単数) | The number of students is increasing.(生徒の数が増えている) |
| a number of + 複数名詞 | 多くの〜(動詞は複数) | A number of students are absent.(多くの生徒が欠席している) |
✕ The number of tourists are increasing.
○ The number of tourists is increasing.
There is / 主語 + have
There is ~ in my town. のほかに My town has ~.
|---|---|
| There is many people in the park. | There are many people in the park. |
| There have a lot of shops in my town. | There are a lot of shops in my town. / My town has a lot of shops. |
| In my town has a big park. | My town has a big park. / There is a big park in my town. |
|---|---|---|
| This is more better. | This is much better. | more と -er を重ねない(強調は much) |
| He is more tall than me. | He is taller than me.
| The population of Tokyo is larger than Osaka. | The population of Tokyo is larger than that of Osaka. |
| She is the most kind person. | She is the kindest person.
| This is very bigger than that. | This is much bigger than that.
so / such(とても〜なので)
|---|---|---|
| so + 形容詞 + that ~ | 形容詞だけ | The book was so interesting that I read it twice.(その本はとても面白かったので2回読んだ) |
| such + (a) + 形容詞 + 名詞 + that ~ | 名詞のかたまり | It was such an interesting book that I read it twice. |
✕ It was so an interesting book that I read it twice.
○ It was such an interesting book that I read it twice.
✕ He is such kind that everyone likes him.
○ He is so kind that everyone likes him.
そのため surprise(驚かせる)、interest(興味を持たせる)、disappoint(がっかりさせる)などは、人を主語にするとき受け身になります。
|---|---|---|
| be surprised at | 〜に驚く | I was surprised at the news.(その知らせに驚いた) |
| be disappointed with / in | 〜にがっかりする | I was disappointed with the result.(結果にがっかりした) |
| be satisfied with | 〜に満足する | I'm satisfied with my score.(自分の点数に満足している) |

○ I was surprised at the news.
✕ I born in Fukushima.
○ I was born in Fukushima.
